Pure marriage – a new venture !!!

I’ve just had a wonderful idea, and I want to share it with you before I go any further to see if YOU think there is mileage in it. I was going to start with a man in a bath ruminating about sausage rolls, but that seemed a bit flippant for so solemn a subject. But tell me what you think about this TV advert for my new company which I am going to call PURE MARRIAGE – THE MODERN WAY TO GET SPLICED.

Advert to begin with women on settee looking the viewer directly in the eye. She has a gentle, rather concerned voice …

‘My friend had to organize her daughter’s wedding – so much stress; so much expense. I don’t want that for my children.’

She goes on to explain that she’s going to take out one of my marriage plans. With the average cost of a wedding now being £24,000 and rising, PURE MARRIAGE PLANS are available at £2,192.73

At this point a message will come up at the bottom the screen telling the viewer that no guest will attend the wedding ceremony. It is envisaged that the Registrar will ask two members of his staff (perhaps the cleaners coming off an early shift) to act as witnesses. She goes on …

The last wedding I went to was so rushed and impersonal, with all the unnecessary cost of dresses, bridesmaids and cars. Now, with PURE MARRIAGE, there will be lots of money left over so that we can all have a party later on. My daughter will be so pleased that we’ve done it MY WAY …

So, what do you think? Would you prefer it if the advert started with the man in the bath and the sausage rolls ? Another idea would be to have someone coming in from the garden with a bowl of trifle. Of course, the newly-weds are not there but we could be reassured at how much money we’ve saved by doing it OUR WAY – and how they would have loved it because they HATED the cost of weddings.

About Scott Anderson

Formerly an Anglican priest (ordained 1975) I was received into the Catholic Church in February 2012, and ordained to the Diaconate on 27th July 2013 and on 29th October 2013 was ordained to the priesthood by the Archbishop of Southwark Peter Smith. After a spell in London (Precious Blood, Borough) I became parish priest of Pont Rémy in the Diocese of Amiens, northern France. I am deeply committed to the Ordinariate as a gift of the Holy Spirit in the search for unity. Like many Ordinariate members I feel a personal gratitude to the late Pope Benedict, together with loyalty to our Holy Father, Pope Leo. My blog tries to make a small contribution to the growth of the Ordinariate by asking questions (and proposing some answers) about the 'Anglican Patrimony'. I shall be ever grateful for the years in France, a wonderful ending to the years of parish ministry. Back in the UK I am attached, very happily, to the parish of Holy Trinity, Dorchester (HTD) and help out where needed in the Catholic parishes of South Dorset.

A brilliant idea! Traditional weddings are “so Victorian”. Much better to give them a “personal” send-off (without them present of course. So respectful!
